MATRON OF HONOR
TESS LEVAN
Tess is my Big Sister from another mother—she’s my aunt Olga’s eldest daughter, which makes her my cousin. I’m an only child, so she was the only Big Sister whom I looked up to.
Tess migrated to the US when I was very young so I didn’t get to know her before she left the Philippines.
But what I’ll never forget was when she went back to the Philippines to visit when she was in her teens. I was still in grade school and I met her for the first time—I was starstruck!
First of all, she won a beauty pageant here in the US at that time. Second, she danced for the whole family to El DeBarge’s Rhythm of the Night and she was as graceful as a ballerina!
That’s when I said to myself, “I wanna be like her when I grow up”.
Now that we’re both grown adults, we still share the same passion for dancing and karaoke.
Other than her dancing prowess, I admire her determination and her generous heart. Tess is a high achiever, but she’s also very good at balancing ambition with pragmatism. That’s what I love about her.
That, and her cute little dimple when she smiles and the way she laughs.
Tess was also among the first to come to my aid when I decided to leave my abusive ex in 2015. She opened the doors to her home for my daughter and me. That’s why there was no way that Tess wouldn’t be my Matron of Honor in our wedding. It was a no-brainer.
And I’m super grateful that she accepted. 😊
